Turning Hospitality Dreams into a Reality

For many job seekers at REFAP, a career in hospitality is their ultimate goal. However, they don’t always have a clear picture of what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

REFAP is pleased to be building a relationship with Cherratta Lodge, to better inform job seekers, and provide a clear pathway into hosted work placements in the hospitality industry.

In a new initiative kicked off recently, job seekers are invited to visit Cherratta Lodge every couple of months to learn about the different types of work that take place there.

35 job seekers attended the first visit, which provided an overview of hospitality and Cherratta Lodge, and a tour of the facilities. In coming months, participants will hear in more detail from people who work in the various departments.

The relationship with Cherratta Lodge is reciprocal. On alternate months, the team from Cherratta Lodge will visit REFAP to discuss relevant issues, and any upcoming opportunities for job seekers.

Brittany Offer is REFAP’s Employment Team Leader and Post-Placement Support Officer, and she has been instrumental in developing the initiative with Cherratta Lodge.

“Our aim is to educate people about the reality of working in the hospitality industry, and help them into work,” she said.

“We currently have one hosted work placement at Cherratta Lodge, and we hope to increase this in the future, leading to ongoing employment.”
